Title: The Morning Glory Maiden
Date: September
Zodiac Sign: Virgo – The Virgin (Maiden)
Element: Earth
Birthstone: Sapphire
Flower: Morning Glory
Artist Statement: I am inspired by memory, symbolism, and the quiet strength of women. This art quilt was created in honor of the Virgo zodiac sign, symbolized by the Virgin.

The maiden’s form was inspired by a photograph of my mother in her youth—a personal touch that brings both heart and heritage to the piece.

If you look closely, you’ll find the Virgo symbol hidden twice among the winding vines. Her dress is rendered in shades of blue to represent September’s birthstone—sapphire—a gem long associated with wisdom and inner peace.
The Morning Glory flower was chosen not only as a traditional September flower, but for its deeper meaning: love, life, and the inevitable passage of time. These blooms rise and fall with the sun, mirroring the cycles we all move through. True to her element, the maiden is grounded—seated directly on the earth—symbolizing the practical, nurturing nature of Virgo.
This piece is both a tribute and a meditation. She is celestial, yet rooted—just like the women who came before me.
This piece was made using the raw edge appliquéd method, steam a seam, Inktense and thread sketched. Design and quilted by myself.
